Large aperture lidar for investigating the middle atmosphere

With the loan from the Australian Antarctic Division of a high-power frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser (green) from the Australian Antarctic Division, we are installing a lidar system at Buckland Park. This will probe the stratosphere using Rayleigh scattering from the air molecules. The receiver telescope has an aperture of 1 m, giving this lidar one of the highest power*aperture products in the business.

This lidar is co-located with the radars at Buckland Park (see the Atmospheric Physics web pages).
